9 Days Mt. Kilimanjaro Trekking the Rongai Route

Day 1: Arrival and hotel transfer.
On arrival, you will be met and warmly received by your driver guide from African Crane Safaris who will then brief you as he transfers you to your hotel for overnight (depending on arrival time)

Day 2: After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred by your driver guide to the gate to begin your hike of 4 - 5 hours along a small, unspoiled trail through a very unique forest of Campar Trees, East African Pencil Cedar and Mountain Olive. Overnight at Simba Camp (9,500 ft).

Day 3: Today you will continue hiking about 3 - 4 hours through the forest into the Moorlands. Look out for spectacular sceneries of Mawenzi peak. Overnight at Kikelewa camp (12,375 ft).

Day 4: Today you will hike about 4 - 5 hours towards the northern side of Mawenzi Point leaving the Moorlands behind into the Alpine Zone. Overnight at Mawenzi camp (14,290 ft).

Day 5: On this day, you will take a rest/relax at leisure for acclimatization. It will also be a good day to take short hikes and explore by yourself, overnight at Mawenzi camp.

Day 6: After a day of rest, you will hike for about 5 hours between Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The views here are amazing as you continue into the saddle between the two peaks. Overnight at the Third Cave Camp. (15,500 ft).

Day 7: Today you will wake up earlier than before and begin your ascent to the summit. It is a long and strenuous hike but very rewarding. The guides will keep proper pace. You will enjoy the fabulous views of Gillman's Peak at18,700 ft. Continue along the crater rim to the summit at Uhuru Peak at 19,340 ft. After the summit you will then descend and proceed to your camp for overnight at Horombo Hut (12,000 ft).

Day 8: After a rewarding and exciting hike, you will depart after breakfast and descend for about 5 - 6 hours down across the Moorland zones of the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro. You will then enter into the lush equatorial rainforest to Marangu Gate at 6,000 ft where you will be met and received by your driver guide who will then transfer you to Arusha for a deserved rest/relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Airport transfer.
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
